did I get my money's worth on this trade

Hello mfk so I've had to trade my 6in dovii
And 5-6 in jag because they were getting to nasty for my true parrots (hoplarchus psittacus )

So my intentions was to get at least 30 in store credit but wheb I got there I was offered a trade for fish this. I got two 3-4 chocolates which I've NV seen in my area in all my life which are priced @24 and I got 5 dollar store credit was this a deal for me ?
 
You've got to look at the bigger picture too you would have ended up with either dead true parrots (expensive to replace) or you'd end up rehoming something eventually , and probably in a rush so you could end up with less in the long run.
Also you've ended up with two chocolates which are rare in your area so I'd be happy if I were you :)

Chocolates are great cichlids. Should fit nice with your tank. Seems like a win/win to me. You got 50 worth of fish and the store was able to give you fish vs merchandise. (The markup is higher on fish so the store loses if they just give you credit.)
 
I agree with all of the post above, most LFS will never give what the fish you trade in is totally worth.

Chocolates will be under the parrots in the pecking order, which would be a welcomed change for them. Chocolates and parrots also get big.
 
It really a matter hiw you feel about it. Personally, I would be very satisfied with it. You have to take into account more than the retail value of what you turned in. As another has pointed out, you have to consider the consequences of not making the trade at all. Your current stock will be happier & healthier. You now have rarer fish. Less stress on you in the future. I think you did very good considering that the store has to make $$ in the end too.
