OK, where i am (NY) pirahna require a permit, BUT i looked it up and only serras, pygos and rose are permit requiring. Nothing about genus Pristobrycon. So that means you dont need a permit for that genus, making them legal. Exodons and Denticulatas are technically legal in NY. Might just use my 70 as a species tank for dents when my main stock moves to the build

Exodons are not piranhas. You need to ask the local FWS to make sure, on the others. Better to be safe than sorry.

I'd say you'll be fine. I think you're correct, but, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Check with local officials.

Please do a shoal of dents. I really looked into doing one a while back, but I would've had to sell my elong for the tank space to do it, and that isn't happening.

I'm tempted to get some dents, just talked to an ex FWC officer (retired) who frequents the bar I work at and he said if the specie isn't listed its not permit requiring, just because its called pirahna doesn't mean its a banned pirahna!
I know exodons aren't pirahna but if they would have included that genus in the bill they would have been legally considered one

So I'm thinking some dents... I can buff em up in my 30 for a while then transfer em to my 70 once the build is done, are the ones aquascape has now big? My cousin ordered a bichir that was supposed to be 4-6 inch and it came in at 9 inch, I wouldn't care but I don't want em to be too big for the 30

Would the p keepers say a 30 is good enough for a few months for a small shoal? What's the minimum # I can get away with? I know SDs will sometimes try to group themselves w/ pirahna, so would adding those help conspecific aggression?

Thats fine. Id hold off on the sd and get ghost shrimp and guppies so it can hunt. Of course quarantine the guppies first or cycle your tank with them.

They breed like crazy. The piranhas cant eat them fast enough
