Yesterday I did my weekly waterchange(s) and turned off my 2 rena xp3's while leaving my AC110 running on my 125g. Well I got preoccupied and forgot to plug them back in. Tonight was when I noticed this and quickly plugged them back in.

Do you think this will this cause my tank to go into a mini cycle or worse? And if I did kill them off how long will it take for them to to rebuild? Thanks

they bene..bacteria die after 2 hrs, but they reproduce pretty quickly. 2 days should be enough.

I doubt you killed them off unless you drained the xp3's. They should still be full of water when turned off, so the bacteria probably wouldn't have a massive die-off.

I thought the bb need oxygen to survive?

They do...and it isn't a good idea, to dump the dead stuff back into the tank...

If it were me I'd take out the XPs and clean them in tap water...then put them back online...the 110's are still good and should seed the XP's rather quickly...

bet you never do that again...

That is why I don't shut anything down I do not absolutely have to...never had a problem, by dosing the tank with de-chlorinator then adding tap water with the canister running all the while...

To late now anyways as it's been a few hours since I turned the filters back on.

Just did a water test...

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate- 10ppm

Now you know what that "itchy" bad feeling you had was.

Read an interesting thread about this problem, bacteria going anaerobic in a shockingly short time span.
Bet it will be a long time before that ever happens again.
