I got some tubefex worms from a used tank I bought...I never really fed with it before so I thought I would see if my ornate bicher would eat it off my tongs. I tore one cube into 3 pieces and fed it to him...like 2 days in a row...this was this past weekend. Well he stopped eating it after the second day so I thought he didn't like it. He has still been eating but now it seems like his back end wants to float. Those freeze dried worms probably had a lot of air in them....does he now have air traped in him...will it get better if so??? He can still swim to the bottom and sit on the bottom but his back end looks like its hovering off the ground and when it swims some and floats in the current it seems the back is wanting to float higher than the head. Am I paranoid...or did I just mess the little guy up :(

if it looks like its back end is wanting to float higher, then it probably is. nothing you can do really but wait and see. if its trapped gas, it should be fine once it passes the gas.

also i wouldn't feed freeze tried worms, doesn't seem like it's substantial enough for a bichir, unless it's a fry or something. other frozen meaty stuff would be better choice.

It should pass, but if you do want to feed them the worms (which you totally can) you need to soak them first so the air is out. One of my bichirs tends to float a little more, but he also has a home on top of the heater. He gorges on pellet, and flake, and hell, pretty much anything else, but by the time I get all food in the tank, he will go for pellet first and stuff himself full. Then he will swim off with a veggie pellet and put in on the heater. (saving it??)

I wasnt feeding him the worms thinking it was a staple...I just had some with a used tank I got and rather than toss them I decided to give it to him. Its about 6-7" I guess. I just hope its ok and passes it if it is in fact trapped gas.

I usually feed him a 5 stick blend from http://www.kensfish.com/ and straight earthworm sticks from there too. He seems to be sitting better tonight...I will watch him over a few days and report back....thanks
