Hey all,
So I thought since I'm at work, why not avoid all responsibility here, and drop a rant thread into the mix today.
My rant is of those fishkeepers out there who knowingly will keep a large species in a tank to small (yes I know beaten to death, the horse isn't getting up, its dead) but not only do that and will argue with you until the end of days, but has the audacity to call you every name under sun, and worst of all a stereotype of elitist fish keepers.
Let me explain. So I was browsing the Youtubes as I often do in my downtime, and I came across a video of several RTC (yes again I know beaten to death) that where in a tank far to small. Now I don't normally comment on videos like that because hey theres probably 5000 RTC, TSNxRTC and other giant readily available fish out there crammed into tiny tanks, but I couldn't help myself but to reply to one commenter in particular.
His notion was his RTC at 18" had been than size for a year+ in his 180 gallon tank, and that's where'd he would be keeping it for life. Again normally I would let it go because there are plenty of well intentioned but mis-informed people out there doing the same thing. But something about his attitude telling off all the responsible people who commented about the size of the tank just got at me ya know? Really just dug deep. So, respectfully, I replied and stated that a 180 would not hold an RTC for life, but rather shorten its life span due to stunting, bad water quality, etc etc blah blah blah. He then responds...not with a respectful argument but rather a hate speech about how 180 gallons is "industry standard" and that people like me ruin fishkeeping. Besides that and calling me some pretty derogatory things on top of it he then states in the wild fish are stunted all the time and live long, glorious lives. I of course retorted with the actual "standard" being no less than 400 gallons along with about 100 other facts and examples of why his way of thinking was flawed and that he was in fact a piss poor fish keeper.
I know I know...arguing in the internet is "insert any number of special Olympics jokes here" but there was just something about not only bad facts but a bad attitude that set me off. I'm sure I'll have a nice long rambling manifesto of a comment reply to read later anyhow. How about you guys? Any just dead wrong fish owners get you so revved up you just had to say something?
