Hi guys/girls,

I have a 180gallon stocked with 2 motoro's and a silver aro. I previously had two fluval 405 canister filters running the tank with the aro by itself. when i added the 2 rays i decided to upgrade my filtration. I replaced one of the 405's with a fx5 and ran the two together for a month. I assumed enough BB was accumulated in the fx5 to remove the last 405 and replace it with another Fx5. So now Im currently running 2 fluval fx5 on my tank. Now my water quality isnt so perfect as i would like. Ive removed to much BB at one time and should of waited longer to remove the last 405. (hope your still following me.lol) Now my water stats are reading,

Ammonia .5
nitrate 10-20 (api test kit has same color for both readings)
nitrite .5
ph 7.6

Ive been doing %25 W/C every other day for the past few days because of this. Im just wondering if Im doing everything correctly now that I have screwed my water up :irked: and will it become stable within time again soon? Is there anything else i should be doing to keep the levels stable until then? Im just concerned for tank buddies. Thanks everyone and what a great site this is!! Rick

Ya i think it kicked back into cycle i did that myself pretty much only took canister down was only gonna do one tray and went nuts cleaned every thing .AH !! live and learn. go buy some bacteria and give it a kick start!!

Ya either stability or nutrfin cycle ive used both with good results!

Thanks guys,
I picked up some stability and dosed the tank as if it were the second day of treatment. (5ml per 20gal) . should i of dosed it like it was a "new" tank at 5ml per 10gal for the first day, followed by 5ml per 20gal for 7 days? Thanks again for the help, RIck

It is probably going through a mini cycle which is where the new BB needs to catch up to the tank so the new tank dosing may be to much. I did a similar thing when switching from canister to wet dry and dosed a little a day for 7 days, but I had fish that were way hardier than rays.

I agree with the above poster your just going through a mini-cycle if it was a full cycle your readings would be much higher. When my 30 went through a mini-cycle I did a 50% water change a day it was back to normal in about a week.

7 day re-cycle without bottled bacteria...
One week with.

Whatever, W/C to keep ammonia and nitrate levels in check would be a big plus for your fish.
Though your levels are not that bad, wonder why you didn`t use half, or so, of the media from your old canisters in the new. Think it would have been easier than doing the swapping around.
