Good day everyone,
I did some work to my aquarium and thought I would show you all. I recently built a new canopy, and trimmed the bottom. The lettering was my first time ever, but I think it's pretty cool. The center piece on the trim shows temperature and time. The walls and stand are painted the same color. Trim is painted with pittsburgh sunproof 100% acrylic.

The canopy is all wood, painted then sealed with polyurethane. I covered the wood with a piece of glass and sat my light on that, to prevent moisture build up I installed a 80mm pc fan in the canopy to exhaust - no moisture whatsoever.

The 2 tanks are connected(overflows/return pump) and because of the fan in the canopy, a good amount of water evaporates each day. So I built a autofill. You'll see a pop bottle under the stand(bottle acts as baffle and holds float in place). In the bottle is a toilet floater, connected to a microswitch above running on 12V on a DPDT relay. When the water level goes down, This activates the microswitch running on 12V. This kicks the DPDT relay on, and in turn the 120V AC turns on, turning the pump on in my holding tank, which runs until the float/microswitch raises back up with the water level. I would build a auto waterchanger, But I don't own this place and there is no drain close enough. Pulling the hose out or getting a bucket out every 1-2 days was getting annoying. The holding tank is 25G and is hidden on the other side of the wall in a wooden box. The water level in the lower tank looks high, that's because it is. I keep a couple small fish down there, and water does not overflow when the power goes out  There's room to spare.

I also got my Algreen 13 Watt uv sterilizer from HD for $46 setup and running at about 100gph, I'm seeing crisper water, my fish seem happier and they definetely sleep better.

So here's what it originally looked like, and what it does now. It's nothing too special but it is definitely better than a steel stand with no canopy, mind you it still is the same steel stand and is very strong. Let me know what you think and have a good day!

Nice transformation. Defently adds alot more to the tank. Good job

why is there a tap on the side of your stand?? ....you my friend are exotic in your own way xD jpjp

Thanks all,

The tap is for quick draining for water changes. Connect my hose and open the tap. It drains from near the bottom of the top tank. I also thought it looked cool, and less mess made.

very nice setup:)
