HI
The dragon fly nymphs are eating all my feeder shrimps. I have a 100gal tub that was stocked with a good amount of feeder shrimp. That was until the nymphs started eating them. I've been netting them for the last 6months or so and am not making any head way. I usually throw them in the grass.
Do any of you know if they are ok to feed to larger fish? I tried them on koi, tin foils and some cichlids. The fishes spit them out. Any ideas on uses and prevention?

First thing to do is to get rid of all the dragon fly larvae in the tub. Then put a fine mesh netting or screen over your tub to prevent the dragon flies from laying eggs in the water. Problem solved.

thanks for the advice.
I can't cover the tub because it has water hyacinth in it for the shrimps. The hyacinth are taller than the tub by about 10"

You couldn't drape a net over the whole thing, Hyacinth and all? You could also build a sort of net tent by using dowels and netting. Just make a square shape frame a little larger than your tub, staple your netting to your dowels, and set it over your tub, if that makes sense.

I'm usually one for leave and let live.. but squish 'em... those things can live threw just about anything. and x2 of preventing them from laying to begin with. dragon flys have to submerse their tails ends in to breed effectively. so preventing them from doing this w/ netting is the most "friendly" way imo of doing that. I can't think of anything that will willingly eat them.. and if there was.. they'de liekly eat your shrimp as well.

come on. dragonflies are our friends. they eat mosckitos

I'm not against dragonflies. Just the nymphs. I wanted to grow the feeder shrimp to feed my fire eels, not the nymphs. Feeder shrimp are 7 for a dollar. Just 1 of the eels can eat like $15 - 20 a week if I let it.
