i got a Cynotilapia Afra from the local FS about 2ish months ago and fed him only frozen blood worms up until about a week ago, before he was bright colors and waiting every morning for food and eat it like he had never eaten in his life. i am now feeding pellets to get some vegetation in his diet and balance his digestion but now he never eats when i feed him, he is almost completely matte black instead of the black with electric blue stripes he was when i got him and lastly he just sits on the bottom now and doesn't do anyting. it almost seems he went from living, to surviving. what am i doing wrong and what do i do to fix it?

sounds like beginning stages of bloat... check the sticky on bloat for treatments.... NO MORE BLOODWORMS they will clog up a Mbuna's digestive tract and cause an outbreak of an internal bug which will in turn kill it if not treated immediately

please from now on stick with cichlid pellets and alternate with Spirulina flakes

good luck... I really hope you can bring it around

thanks everyone! yeah i stopped feeding the pellets that i had too, they were an unlabeled generic brand i got from the LFS and he wasn't eating them, there we a bunch on the bottom. i bought some New Life Spectrum a few days ago and am now feeding that and i'm hoping for the best. already he seems more alive and he is brighter but he NEVER leaves his cave to eat...normal?

thanks everyone, i fed him today and he is eating and zippin around his tank, he is also showing more color! so i'm guessing he is doing better!
