I hear all these different dat names bein thrown around here and I was wondering what the difference is between them. I.e Wide bar, thin bar, pulcher etc.. Pics would help. Also is there a price diff? Cuz Im looking to get some and I dont want to get ripped.

Got this picture that rayman posted some time ago...

Price wise, widebars (pulcher) and NGT's would probably be the most expensive and silvers being the cheapest. They also grow slowly, so large dats will be quite a bit more expensive than small ones. Silvers also do best with some salt in the water. Brackish is recommended for them, although they can live in full fresh, but in my experience are more disease prone that way. Hope that helps. I'm no expert though. I'm sure someone who has kept more of the different types (I've only kept silvers and thin bars) can help more.

The thin bar in that chart is the NTT.

The necklace refers to that second stripe (first one behind the eye - right where a neck would be if it were a person). A dat has a full necklace when that stripe extends all the way down without any breaks in it and without one side stopping short.

Hmmm ok I called my lfs and they said they had somthing like yellow dats, thats what I thought he said so Im gonna check it out in the morning.

Here's another chart courtesy of rayman. If you are unsure of the type of dat, you can usually tell by the stripes on the tail. It might be helpful for tomorrow morning if the lfs doesn't know the scientific name.
