I got my local tank builder to make a 6' X 2.5' X 2' height 220g tank which is great.
However, he is concerned about my next requirement, a tank of 6' X 4' X 2' height. Says he has never made that width before. Is there really a problem here? I thought what matters first is the height of the tank which adds to the maximum pressure and then the length which decides the maximum bending stress at the middle of the front panel.

Is increasing the width a major leap in tank build?

Thanks.

is it going to be glass? The extra width may require extra reinforcemente of the base or even extra width of the glass itself.
My glass tank is 10*4*2´4" with 15mm glass, so its feasible

Only if you aren't gonna support the middle of the bottom.

Sent from my mind to my fingers to my phone to the MFK servers to you

I will be keeping the tank on a wooden stand with a single flat wooden layer supporting the base. Is that what you meant?

Yes it will be glass. So with 15 mm glass what type of extra reinforcements is required at the base?

As far as the maker is concerned, there's really no difference other than size and material needs. Yes, you'll need additional support under the tank, but other than that, you should be fine.

my tank with 15mm glass dedn´t need extra base reinforcement (in the aquarium itself)
The stand, of course needs to support the extra weight

15mm glass is overkill for a 2' high tank regardless of width, IMO. 12mm will be plenty, the only difference with extra width is that your stand needs to be completely level and evenly support the whole base. Your best bet would be vertical supports at 600mm/2' centres in all directions, either 4x2 timber or 50x50x3mm steel.
