I'm assuming your talking tapajos I and atabapo I?

Crenicichla sp. 'atabapo I'
in my opinion have a 'dirtier' look to them when compared to Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos I'. That atabapos occasionally have a black spot behind the eye that seems to be mood related, they have a more prominent humeral spot as well. I believe the tail ocelli is also unrimmed and more oblong in atabapos. Plus they occasionally show a dark lateral stripe, again mood related.

Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos I'
are a much more intense red coloration, in both genders. They have a more torpedo shaped build as well, although as they get older and larger its less prominent. They also have the black eye spot and humeral blotch, but it seems more defined than atabapo I, and the tail ocelli is rimmed and more round.

If you were able to get them side by side they are fairly easy to tell apart. Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos I' and Crenicichla sp. 'tapajos II' adults are a little trickier though, especially the females.

I'm sure someone else will have some more input. :)

I think the atabapos are more of a cherry red while the Tapajos are more tomato red. Also the Atabapos have a distinct thick black stripe on the dorsal fin--which looks pretty cool next to all that red.
