Difference between Escondido and Carpinitis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Escondido is a Location. Carpinti is the breed.

Herichthys carpintus is the Genus and species name, but escondido, or chairel are simply locations where H carpintus are found, in Mexico.
Just to be clear, a breed, is like beagle, or poodle or sheepdog, but dogs are all variations of one species Canis lupus familiaris. The beagle is not a separate species from a St Bernard, but is a human perpetuated characteristic line breed, like the difference between a normal Jack Dempsey, gold or Electric blue, or fantail or Moscow, or black guppy.

yeah I always see ppl say species and genus. I dont use it because it sounds complicated. hhaha

Canis Lupus Familiaris?

Areis U Seriousis? lol

so we dont use the word breed for fish. I see. Thank U for the info.

Yep seriousis, my dog knows whats a dog, be it chihuahua, or an irish wolfhound, but also knows if whats not a dog, be it fox or coyote.
Canis lupus familiaris, sheepdogis romanius.
I don't find Genus species complicated at all, but find its the only way to get (or at least come close) to really get what what your looking for by using proper nomenclature (in the parlance of our times of course)

He's saying common names make things confusing for some, especially when they are named different things in different areas. Say here we call a arapiama exactly that, but in SA they are often referred to as piraracu. The whole genus and species system was created to diffuse confusion so everyone around the world knows exactly what everyone else is talking about

Exactly
In the aquarium world, "red terror" could mean xCichlasoma festae or xCichlasoma uropthalmus, maybe something else, or "red devil" could be any number of more than a dozen Amphilophus species or hybrids.
I have heard the name "pearl cichlid" applied to Geophagus braziliensus, any number of Satanoperca species, and some of the Herichthys carpintus complex, even some Africans.
Just because you buy an xCichlasoma festae doesn't necessarily mean you'll get one, but it is at least more likely that the seller may know the difference, and if he or she is ethical you may be more likely to end up with the right fish.
Genus names are a bit fluid, but species names usually remain stable.
