hi,

I need to buy replacement parts for my fluval but i do not know if my fluval is a 404 or a 405. If anyone can help me, much appreciation. Thank you!

copied from the website:

There have been so many design changes to the 404 while it was on the market that it is difficult to compare the various models with the 05 series. For this reason, the differences mentioned are from the latest 04 series versus the new 05 models.

When comparing the 405 to the latest version of the 404, they are very similar.

Aquarium capacity, flow rate and filtration volume are all the same.

The 404 is gray and blue while the 405 is black and silver.

The brackets that are used to hold the hoses over the rim of the aquarium on the 405 are more user friendly. They do not have the rubber bands like on the 404.

The 405 also has a larger, clog-free intake strainer.

That's where I was going

04 series has blue clips

Yeah, the ones that hold the top part (with the motor in it) to the bottom part. Lol, when I first looked at mine, I couldn't figure out how to get the top of easily, because there was no handle to pull it off with. Finally, I figured out that once you unlatch the handles, pushing down on them pops the lid right off. :hitting:

There are differences with the hoses as well, but I figured davidkye must have bought it used, to not know, so the hoses may be non standard.

Then there is the actual hose nippl3s that can add confusion, cause the 404 had 2 variations, based on the smooth or ribbed hoses. (or is that the 405?)
