Is there a difference between T5 and T12 bulbs. Will be ordering an shoplight that comes with 2 T12 bulbs wanted to know the difference if any.

T5 is more compact with the same, if not more wattage per foot of light. This sort of thing is great for planted tanks, reef's etc.

The "T" number is the diameter in 1/8 of an inch so 5/8" vs. 1-1/2". With a T5 you have newer technology and can get more light from a smaller package. Cost wise, for general purpose lighting with no other consideration the T12 shoplight will be least expensive.

There are many differences between T5's and T5s even. NO are not very efficient, and put out very little light. HO puts out far more light, for the same or slightly more energy than a T12.

Not all T5's are efficient lighting systems.
