I was going to get a silver aro but I like the blacks much more. This would be my first are and they would be in a 135 to start with 2 pbass, 1 clown knife, ornate bicher, silver dollars and clown loaches. What, if any, is the difference in care between a black and a silver arowana?

Barely any at all IMO.
I've had a silver and black both at the same size, and if anything the black is a little more skiddish.
Other than that I can't think of a difference.

That said, you might want to watch the pbass, they might bully the aro (depending on size). Same goes for the CK and the silver dollars, as they may be nippers. Definately a possibility of coexistance, but keep a close eye on them. Goodluck with whatever you get!

I'm not sure about care differances, but you do know that the blacks are out of season amd they are a buttload more expensive than the silvers, right??

It should be fine for a while in there, you will have to upgrade.

I like the blacks too. (Note the Avatar)

Rock on!!!! :headbang2

there is alittle differance but not much blacks are alittle more skittish and stay a little smaller. other than that there is not much differance. what size tank are you gonna get after the 135? that 135 will be pretty full when all those fish are adults... also if you dont have a lot of fish experiance i wouldnt get a black since they are gonna be upwards of $180..i got a black as my first arow and i was nervace about it because they are so expensive..but then again i also went from a 20 gallon to a 235gallon.its all up to you and its gonna be tuff to find blacks right now. anyways....goodluck with whatever you get

the stock list is anything but final.....I realize that I will need a 250+ for them and im working on it. I know that the blacks are much more expensive but imo its worth it, they are soo sweet:drool:.

Theres a black aro season????

he means there peroid of availability

check out aquatechnics thats where i got mine from he might still have one 12"+ not sure tho...by season as messiner stated period of availability or during breeding season.

it is said that blacks need cleaner water(more waterchanges) but I am unsure if it's true because I treat all my fish pretty good. Also The slowerg growth thing is bunk. My black is growing as fast or faster than my last 3 silvers.. they do however have a more slender body. Another thing, I'm not trying to tell you what to do just merely suggesting but I would get a silver first if you "plan" on getting a bigger setup and wait on the black until you GET the bigger setup. Why you ask? Blacks are pretty pricey and you should use that money to get the bigger setup first so that you don't have to put the aro through un-needed stress by moving him.. that way if the bigger setup falls through for some reason you don't have to get rid of a $300.00 fish.. Just my 2 cents
