Difference in koi

What's the difference between
Japanese koi and
Malaysia koi

I'm no Koi expert, but i'm going to guess its based on the quality...

Since i remember many years ago, if you were to buy top quality show Koi's from Japan, they would inject them to make them infertile so you couldn't breed them youself...

So i'm going to say, that is probably the difference, at least for the really high end Koi...

I believe along with this, they also have different fins and a different look in general

Japan is where they originated, so the best quality koi come from there. Malaysian Koi are of minor quality and also more likely to have illnesses.

So most koi seen at chain stores or ones simple labeled as koi are probably the Malaysian type right ?

A good seller will tell you the name of the breeder if they are from Japan. I wouldn't even buy from where you don't know the origin of the fish.
