I called the LFS store today to see what they had stockwise, and they said they had a red terror in, I kind of got all giddy inside; anyway, they said it was about 3/4" and had no black in the dorsal fin. Would it be easily discernible if it was a male at that age/length? I know the females have the black in their dorsal, and that is what I'm looking for specifically. Any way to tell at this point?

Nope. Not even close. Not at all...and "red terror" is not what Id be asking for if you want a Festae. The name red terror is used for both uropthalumus and festae and its a regular occurence that people get uro's instead of festae. Good Luck!

I couldn't agree more. The mislabeling of Festae is common when referred to as Red Terrors. Mayans (Uro) go by the same title. Sexing at that size is near impossible. They go through a long "Maybe" phase. Usually about 5-5" you can pretty much tell what sex they really are.
