differences between vieja synsplium and vieja melanurus

hi mfk bros and sistrs, im new to the site and i just wanna know can anyone tell me what to look for if i were to purchase a vieja...i guess the differences of the two; the way they look....between vieja synspliums vs vieja melanurus.?? im new to this type of cichlid and as of it now, any +/- comments feedbacks are welcome.

Scientifically they are exactly the same fish. Synspilum is a synonym for melanurum.

Do all hobbyists agree? I don't think so. And they were moved from vieja to paratheraps as well.

I agree they are scientifically the same fish, but they have different color patterns. many CA cichlids of the same sp. have different colors depending where they were found.
I'm going to say they are the same fish because biologist know a lot more then hobbyist.
We don't test DNA and study the sp. in the field like biologist do.

Technically no since they are the same fish w/ same DNA.
