You certainly have a very special cray with that holthuisi! I am envious! Also something that I do with all crays coming into my tanks is a salt bath to eliminate any worms/parasites that they crays may (almost always when from the wild) have. I use aquarium salt, but table salt will do in a pinch. I put 7 or 8 tsps of the salt into a high-sided bucket and add 1-cup boiling water and stir until the salt is disolved then I add 3-cups of room temp water and let the mixture get to room temp. Then put in an airstone to keep the oxygen level in the water high and put the crayfish into the salt bath for 10-minutes. For a wild caught cray, I repeat the process every 3-days for about 4-times inspecting the crays with a magnifying glass. For crays coming from another collector I can do one or two cycles, but have found the need to repeat as often as a wild-caught cray.
I have also found that some Cherax prefer a veggie based diet rather than a meat based diet, more so than our North American crays. I find this interesting and feed according to the crays preference.
