Looking to enhance the color of my fish on my 20 gallon long tank. I use the normal 10 gallon hood light. I recently just bought a (Zoo Med) Reef Sun 50/50 light for $15. It says this is a 50/50 combination of 6500k trichomatic daylight phospor and actinic 420 phosphor. Unfortunately I feel as though this didnt really do all that much. Should I take it back and buy a light with 10000k? or 18000k?

10k will give it a nice blue light. what kind of fish are you keeping?

Rubber lip pleco, leopard ctenopoma, african peacock eel, and possibly a firemouth cichlid soon (Which would look great with a blue light).. But so far these fish are all mostly a brownish color with green. I have driftwood and live plants, its a very natural looking tank. What do ya think?

having a black background as well as a dark colored substrate helps to bring out the color in the fish. having a lighter colored substrate can actually have a "bleach" effect on certain fish and cause their coloring to appear pale. these suggestions combined with a 10k bulb will help

ok, so unfortunaetly i was an idiot and picked up a 6500k bulb instead of a 10000k, its there really a huge difference, i have started to notice my plants are not growing very well. also I bought a couple water lily bulbs a month ago and all they have done is turned moldy and soft, whats the deal????
