different photo competition

I was wondering what it would be like to have a semi-organized photo competition where only one species was entered at the time. Members would vote for the fish they liked best. Obviously the quality of the photos will help each entry, but the fish would mainly be judged on how good of a specimen it is. There would be one week of a pictures-only posting period followed by a poll for each fish. I don't know how the admins would set this up but it would be very interesting and a way to compete without having to lug fish hundreds of miles away and all the set-up required. This isn't like a picture of the month where you see pics of anything from arowanas to zebra danios. This is the best of the best for each species. Hopefuilly it will promote keeping fish undamaged and in great shape, identifying good bloodlines, and making us all better photographers. I think new world cichlids is a good place to start. Is this a super-dumb idea that isn't manageable? We could have a separate website where members fromall forums could vote, or we could have forum-specific contests.
 
Oh. I didn't know. Why was it voted no?
 
Why don't we just do it our selves without the mods. We make a poll everyone post pictures but no one can make comments just to keep the page numbers down and there won't be comments in between the photots. I mean we don't need to trouble the mods for a simple thing. If you want I can help with this every 3 weeks or so. we give people to weeks to vote and at the 3rd week we tally up and send a PM to the winner. Maybe eventually we can give prizes.
 
This has been done with both Monster Jags and with 55 gallon setups, and I'm sure there are others that I've not seen or remember. Just have to have a member who wants to do the work.

Edit: one more comes to mind, wurm did it with clown loaches also.
 
Sounds good to me. Just didn't want a bunch of comments between pics and voting has to be done after a certain period b/c votes before all the pics are posted doesn't work. Gotta have some good guidelines and I think they need to be established up front.
 
you can do it two ways, have members email you there photos or have a thread where members post their photos ONLY NO COMMENTS and then copy the pics into a thread with a poll

Great ideas. Both would work. I like the second idea better. Gotta have a time period for posting and for voting either way.
