Does anyone have an answer to this... I have 10 baby Cons, all from the same brood and they are all totally different sizes. The biggest (a male...) is just over an inch, there's a bunch of females about 3/4", more at half inch and about 4 that are about 1/3" and just don't seem to want to get any bigger....
Is this a common thing? Am I just seeing natural selection at work?
It's weird and I've been meaning to ask this for a while....

Its quite normal when raising groups of fish .I'd be more surprised if they were all the same size.
Its down to hormones secreted by the dominant fish, well that's the best theory I've come across ,its certainly not down to 1 fish getting more food than another.
I am currently raising 5 different spawns of cichlids including Orange bellied Cons and the same thing is happening with each brood.
The most radical example is with my Redheads the largest is nearly a foot long whilest the smallest is still under 4".

:)

Mmmm...thanks guys, that's interesting about the hormone thing, hadn't thought about that before, but makes sense as the biggest one seems to be the only male (with 9 potential females to choose from...lucky bugger!). Anyone with any other observations?
