I was at my local fish store earlier and the owner had just gotten 3 new baby RTC's. I noticed that they look a bit different from mine. They have a much darker black color than mine. Also my rtc is black on the top third of his body and white the rest except for the fins. The cats at my lfs had black on the top third, white in the middle, and then black on the bottom third of their bodys. I havent see a lot of cats like mine. Most of the rtc's I see are like the ones at my lfs. So are they different types of red tail cats? Because I know there are many different kinds of tsn's.

Also the only reason I was wondering is because of price. I bought my rtc at a different lfs than the one I was talking about but I got mine for $50 and the lfs with the 3 new rtc's is selling them for $20 at the same size. I realize I may have just gotten ripped off but they look quite different so I thought it may have been something else.

I believe there are at least two types of rtc, one is South American and the other might be from somewhere in Asia.

prolly just a colour change from the mood, unless the body type is different? there are asian rtc but they look completely different.

Asian are a solid black i think, from as far as i've seen, and are very aggressive. asian is the only other type i've heard of.

I have the solid black Asian one for past 4 mnths got him at 2" prolly 6-7" now but i have neva seen him being aggressive to any of the fish except when the oscars trouble him otherwise hez just calm....

Asian Red Tails are very aggresive.

and I don't believe there is any other species of red tail cat, they are all probably just variations of the species

and BTW I'm almost 100 percent positive that asian red tails and SA red tails are not related. SA are very similar to flathead catfish.
