hey everyone I have seen some angels in my area that the LFS owners are claiming to be altums. My question is how do I tell for sure?

can you get some pics of them? some of the true wild P.scaleras i have gotton kind of looked like altums. post a pic if possible.

Altums also tend to change the intensity of their stripes very quickly in response to other fish or to stress. Fins are very erect and don't sweep back like many other scalares. The first stripe goes through the eye, the second stripe typically fades out quickly.

Wild angels vary a bit in body shape, but the altum is distinct. There are some angels called "Peruvian Altums" but there are differences. Compare the link above to these Peruvians:

My experience - awesome fish, but they require consistent maintenance to do well. Good luck!

wht about eye color? I have seen some with red eyes like my scalar and some without? does this help tell the difference?

what is my angel? I was told along time ago he was a wild scalar?
