Hey guys I heard any wood can be transformed into driftwood via soaking and and constant water changes. Has anybody done this? Does it work?

Ive heard it is possible but it takes years. I think it was arapimag that said it (i could be wrong though) that he conditioned the big stumps in his tank by leaving them in a pond outside for a couple years. Thats what you would have to do. Its like soil erosion only exponentially slower

It really just depends on the wood. Is the wood fresh/green wood or dead/ weathered wood? If the wood is green it will leach sap into your water and possibly harm you fish. If the wood is dead and weathered the you can soak it in hot water to sterilize it. Make sure the bark has been removed first. And its pretty much ready to go. If the wood is not water logged then you may have to weight it down with a rock or two.

Largely depends on the type of wood soft or hard wood, plus you have to be careful about leaching some can harm your fish better to buy from a seller who knows what they are doing

Years, I doubt it for most of us any ways. Yes maybe if you are doing very extremely large pieces. But medium and small pieces can be done fairly quickly. As long as the wood is dead and not green freshly cut wood.
