i think my mayan cichlid is a lil Deedeedee instead of scooping up sand in his mouth he just finds a little spot and starts spazzing out in that little area and before i know it, a hole in the sand all the way to the glass in like less then 10 seconds it is really kinda strange because he isnt scratching he will literally put his stomach to the ground and start swimming down into the sand and starts doing like little circles sending the sand flying all around the tank. any body experience this activity in there fish...at first i though he/she was trying to lay eggs but there where no eggs just three craters that he keeps empty of sand by doing that activity with his body i have never seen him use his mouth to dig only his body. oh yea should i also say the sand in 3inches deep because its a planted tank but he keeps his craters away from the plants. so yea any body seen this before? he is a young mayan cichlid also maby 1 1/2 inches he is a fast grower, noticing a lil growth within the first two weeks

I'm growing out Geo tapajos redheads. the 2 fastest growers will claim their own shady spot and do that, but not as deep as yours. they put their belly in sand, twirl down & chase everyone away [except the big Heckelli male]. I also expected them to do it with their mouths. they're my first Geos.
