Hey Forum,

I was hoping all of you could share what experiences you have had with different types of digital thermometers.

I have had a couple myself

Coralife: not sure on the accuracy, quick to adjust, adjusts often, not submersible, do not get it wet

Sybon: fairly accurate and stable. However, its accuracy has come into question lately

JBJ: not any good experience with. not accurate, changes slowly,

My first digital thermometer was one of these:

It worked fine for months, but after a while, the screen gradually faded until it was completely blank (and I tried replacing the battery and it didn't do anything). So then I got one of these:

...from petsmart, and so far it is working great.

I've tried multiple brands of aquarium grade digital thermometers...

... a couple of them worked wonderful for a few months...

...none of them stood up to the tests of time...

I have 12 coralife digital thermometers wadded up in a ball in the bottom of a storage container.

While the convenience of a digital thermometer is wonderful, they simply do not use quality parts in makign them. Since the floating ones cost $1 each, are very reliable and are easy to read at a glance, I see no reason to keep wasting money on digital ones...

Be sure to only take advice abotu the quality of them from someone who has been using them for an extended period...

I have a Coralife, Zoo Med, and JBJ. I think out of all of them...

Coralife has lasted the longest (nice to have an ON/OFF switch).
Zoo Med...I've gone through 6 of them...not great.
JBJ seemed to work good for me, but after awhile, the screen went out.

Ive had a bunch of different models and they've all crapped out on me in a few months. I stick to the plain and simple floating ones and they work great.

My first digital one was rubbish and I couldn't get the damn thing to work, even after going through a few different batteries just to be sure and there was no on/off switch. So it wasn't that complicated.
After its replacement failed to work as well I gave up and now I buy the old fashioned glass ones which have seen me through the years just fine.

I love the convenience of the digital thermometers, I can look at it as I walk by. This makes it for e worth a little bit extra.

The problem with the old style glass thermometers is that they react too slow for my tastes. This also stems from the fact that I do WCs so often that i need something that tells me right away if the temperature is changing.

The coralife one is good, but many say they are 2-3 degs out of the real temperaature

I have a SYBON in my largest tank and it was working really well until i have been recently startin to question the accuracy due to some temperature changes with heating and curing.

The JBJ and ZOOMED both don't work at all.

Has anyone had any experience with the Lifegaurd one?
