Anyone use digital probe thermometers in an aquarium? I just ordered 2 of them, curious to see how well they work. I use probes in all of my reptile tanks and they seem to work great. Within 2° of my IR gun when I check them. These ones say they are sealed up and safe for underwater use but I'm curious if the waterproofing affects their accuracy. I know when I siliconed one into a tarantula enclosure the silicone insulated it too much and it was no longer accurate

i use a digital therm when doing water changes but monitor temps all the time. I touch the glass to make sure it feels normal, aside from that I don't worry much.

M biggest fear is the 300W heater failing and cooking my fish when I am not home. I wish there was a solution for that.

The best way to combat that is using a heater controller. I've linked one below. I don't have this one but maybe some of the pros on here can lead you in the right direction.

I use one of these on each of my tanks, along with my heater controller, which also displays the current water temp. This one reads about a half a degree higher thank the controller on each tank but it's very consistent.

This is what I use to protect each of my tanks. I have three of them and they have been working very well for me. Just set either the heater thermostat or the controller thermostat slightly higher and both will have to fail on in order for the tank to overheat.
