In My Skin !!!
I've seen some pics of tanks here that have nice dim / subdued lighting (Amazon look). I figured aout an inexpensive way... Taks a black trash bag, cut-out a thin, single layer strip and lay it between your lights and glass top. Looks geat!!! You can adjust the brightness by off-centering your light over the strips. It casts some nice shaddows in the tank.

Not to seem negative, but wouldn't (if you have a large tank anyway) just using less lights not work the same? Or am i missing the point?

I might be reading into it wrong but I think with the strong light and having slits in the garbage bag would give a column effect with the light.

Ah, you mean like sunlight through leaves of trees before it hits the water?

Similar to a method I have used for a piranha tank. I spaced out pieces of aluminum foil under the light. It did not give a column effect. It worked really well. If your lights are really bright, then maybe you will get a column effect.

I have also done that with the alum foil. I get a little weird with plastic trash bag around a heat source. Just me....
