Beautiful Sunny Walterboro SC
I'm new to angelfish especially dime sized babies. They are now between nickel and quarter size i guess. my question being is it normal in this stage to be able to see the gills being so red? they are still kinda see through. I just checked my parameters before doing a 25% water change. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5.0 ppm. the picks suck but here they are. 12 babies in a 55 gallon for now. I just want to make sure they aren't sick or anything. I got them from a local breeder who has been around for a long time.

I adopted an angel that was about the size of an open hand. It had been in a tank with 2 8" Plecos that were feeding off its scales. After all healed up, it looked like a large version of your angels. Same red around gills, but not nearly as deep of a red.

Look like blushing angels to me.. Look them up on the web. its normal.
I was given about 15 angels one time. Nice Silver angels.. and when I got home, I noticed one little angel in there, looked nothing like the others. Not even sure why the guy that gave all the angels to me even had it since he was a silver breeder.
anyway, this little guy had the same look. red spots in the gill area. I thought the same thing, something was wrong or he was hurt. So I kept a good ee on him for awhile. He never changed.. well later I found out he was a blushing angel.
so, to me, thats what it looks like you have..

Yea it's a normal thing with angels esp. the younger ones, as the other said it's known as a blushing angel. Very nice fish and perfect water conditions keep up the good work.
