Anyone used dimension lumber instead of plywood to top a stand? I am looking for 30" wide tank and using 3 - 2x10's?

I never saw anyone do that. I bet its super heavy duty though.

You really only need to support a typical tank around the perimiter of the base, especially on the ends.

I have an acrylic tank, and I was only looking at it because those would fit in my car, while a plywood sheet would not, luckily I found someone with a truck free, so I was able to get plywood. I agree the dimensional lumber would have been to strong, but I was curious about the variation in thickness mainly.

See if your local lowes, home depot, or menards wil cut the plywod the way you want. I don't see why it wouldn't work but It might shrink and warp over time a lot more then plywood. And it might cost more.
