i am thinking of getting one and i want to know. are the males always blue or only while spawning and are they as aggressive as people say they are??? do they really bite eyes?

Not agressive, not an "eye-biter" grows slow. Do NOT overfeed. I've had pellets literally "bust out the sides" Patience will be rewarded growing these up.

Once they start to mature they are blue. Not very aggressive compared to many african cichlids.
