First of all, i have been finding these forums very helpful and entertaining so i would like to thank you all as i am new here.

Secondly my dinosaur birchir jumped out of the tank the other day and died (obviously) so i ran to the pet store to get another. The one i got is less than 1/4 the size of my old one and i was just wondering how fast they grow?

I tried to put it in a one of the tanks but for some reason the algae eater wouldn't stop swimming at it and chasing it around. The birchir was fine with the blood parrot in that tank which is about 5 times its size and the algae eater is just about as big as the birchir itself. The algae eater was fine with my old birchir why not this one?

Do you think this small birchir would be ok with an acei cichlid? the old one was but i know that the old one was much much bigger which was probably why the acei didn't bother it.

This will probably be moved to the polypterus section shortly. I think how fast they grow depends on what you feeding them. My sen bichir almost doubled in size in the first month I had him off of beef hearts. My friend has the same type of bichir I have and she has had hers for about 3 months and mine is now about the same length as hers, 6 inches or so, but thicker. When I got him he was about 3-3.5 inches.

in 2 months mine went from 1.5" to almost 6". Then it died. Is it a senegal? I am not sure if that is a dinosaur

its a senegal birchir. mine when from 2'' to 4'' in a month.

so i guess 3 - 6 in a month isn't that big of a deal after all then. perhaps my friend's bichir is just a slow grower.
