This is info on the eel in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray_bichir
I've had her for a little less than a year. Been generally healthy, active, eating krill and sinking carnivore pellets. Recently she has developed a nasty film around her (almost like her skin is melting or shedding) and her fins appear to be rotting off. She also has red lacerations towards the end of her tail.
She is weakened to the point of letting me handle her-- gently pick her up and move her-- with little to no response. Does not swim, will not eat.
I think it may be red pest/fin rot, but my question is this:
Is she beyond help? If so, what would be a humane way to euthanize her?
I appreciate any help.
