What kind of medications can you use on crayfish?

I wanna do some experiments with them and they are covered in leeches and white worms.

Copper kills, I know that. A salt bath maybe?

as long as this is an expeiriment id try the salt bath id be intrested on finding this out myself. well let us now how it goes.

Don't know why you didn't ask me. I'm just the owner of a crayfish hatchery. You're right about avoiding copper at all costs when it comes to inverts. Here's some treatment protocols that will work on crays:

A salinity change bath of 10ppt for a minimum of 30 minutes (60 minutes preferred) will cause most ectoparasites to dislodge from the host crayfish.

A formalin bath, using agricultural-grade formalin, at a rate of 1ml per gallon for one hour will eliminate most bacterial and fungal hitchhikers from the cray's exoskeleton, thorax, abdomen, gills, and glandular ducts. Some formulin will also be ingested and will kill many parasites within the digestive tract.

Continued treatment for internal parasites can be achieved through the use of garlic extract additions to the cray's food.

The treated crays should be observed for 4 days for potential viral attack. If a virus is suspected, the crays need to be euthanized and the tanks and equipment sterilized to prevent the spread of possible crayfish viral plague.

Oddball

Have you ever heard of or used hydrogen peroxide for any treatments ?

we USED to use it to remove sea lice from farmed salmon.

I've heard of its' use and have seen it in action in large hatcheries. I can't use it on my crays due to having an indoor closed-loop system. The effect H2O2 has on lice will also effect the crayfish larvae within my closed system. It's just too strong of an oxidizer to use at treatment dosage levels. I have used it at much smaller dosages to enhance my dissolved O2 levels during blooms or times I have heavier than normal bio-loads.

we used it in sea cages so dispersal was not a problem.

but have heard of it used for a dip , also for gill disease.

Cool

Damn... I was really getting hyped about going snorkling and doing the experiment.

Ok by the book. Thanks Oddball.
