how should water flow in an aquarium?in what direction?is there a general rule?i have the exhaust of my filter pushing water right from the middle of my tanke...and a pump on the right side at the top,it creates a little surface agitation but not much, pushin water left.does this sound alright?what else would you use a pump for?if you can understand this please help thanks

In longer tanks I try for a cross flow...side to side...pattern. While I usually go with a circular...back to front...pattern on wider tanks. It makes very little differance as long as you avoid dead spots in the flow and have good serface movement.
