Last year I bought some kind of dirt at lowes called aqua dirt? or something. I went and they no longer carry it anymore. Where can I find some aqua dirt on the internet? Looking for names. I can't find anything.

For any kind of aquatic plants, ordinary garden soil without manure would do well. But ordinary clay soil, hold the plants better and make pond water less murky.

Clay is best, but still messy. I only use gravel as my "soil".

I think thats what most people do with good results.

My lowes never had aquatic plant soil, but home depot does, called shultz aquatic plant soil. I mixed it with fluorite for my planted tank since it has decent nutrient values. Its not as heavy as gravel is the main downside I found.

This spring, I tried 3 different ways, after checking all the lily pots and dividing the new
rhizomes.
Most of them I potted with half clay and stone pieces on top. Till now koi stays away. They start blooming.
Some of them I put into big buckets with and without soil and keep them outside of the pond. Both have reasonable amount of leaves but no blooming yet.

And the last 3 rhizomes I just hang with strings into the pond. Yet, they have very small and short leaves, not yet on the water surface. But these 3 were young rhizomes and it is not fair to compare with others. Tomorrow have to put them back into the dirt and hang some other mature rhizomes, I believe, to see the result more fairly.
