Dirty 40 gallon, need scavenger

I have a 40 gallon tank with a couple cichlids, and I feed them a lot, so there is a lot of food on the bottom of the tank most of the time. I need a scavenger that is relatively hardy,will clean up the food, and not be pestered by my fish. What fish would be appropriate?

I would try the gravel vac fish. LOL!

don't over feed and gravel vac more.

adding fish rarely fixes a problem.

Even if you find a scanvenger to eat the leftovers it will just add more poop, therefore not solving the problem.

malaysian trumpet snails? they will turn the detritus of your overfeeding into hundreds of little snails!

You need god fish keeping skills, water change 25% per week using dechlorinator, do not over feed, make sure you have a good filter (decent external), dont wash filters in tap water and thats about it
