I built this contraption for the reason being I have 4 fish tanks in my basement/ man town. After a while I got sick or carrying 17 five gallon buckets up the stairs and plus my wife would just clean the entire house and I go and dump waster water in a sink or tub and dirty that up. So I needed some way to easy this task. So I got for free a 55 gallon drum, plus I had all the PVC here, so the only thing I needed was the sump. I saw Harbor Freight had a 2,000 gph on sale (50%) off plus I had another 25% coupon so I bought the pump for $55.00. Got home cut the top off the barrel and put the pump in, hooked up the plumbing and now all that water gets pumped right into the main sewer pipe. So I can pump about 50 gallons of dirty water out in about 30 seconds. Put I still have to bucket the water to the barrel if I want to to a deep gravel clean. It does beat lugging all the water up the stairs.

great idea ive been toying with something similar my version would have a pump to draw water to the bucket.
Low water pressure makes my python almost useless.

That's great! Why don't you use a sink adapter and use a hose to fill your tanks. If you don't have a faucet in your basement tap into your copper lines. Maybe throw in a utility sink?

I do fill the tanks up with a hose from the kitchen sink that to makes life a lot easier.

Yea I have a python but made by aquaeon. I bought that thinking I could clean my tanks but it was a fail. Even my 55 gallon that 30 feet away from the sink doesn't do a good job with the python. So I just run that to fill up the tanks in my basement.

Nice idea but you may have problems with the washing machine draining properly since you raised the discharge pipe up that high.

No never had problems when we bought the house it was 3 inches higher. I have used this system for just over a year. Just noticed the DIY threads in here so maybe it will help someone get a similar idea.
