Well I went to my LFS today and couldn't believe it I saw a jag that was maybe 1 in (max) for $6.99 but it wasn't cover in all black but yellow too sort of like http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80769. I stood there for maybe 10 mins thinking on getting it but I decided not to get it because I don't have an extra tank and may not get a 125 tank for it. So my question is is it a rare find or is this jag morph pretty common because I want to know what kind of opportunity I missed Also, could this jag have been dyed because there where 2 one was yellow with black bars and another one that was yellow with most of the bars covered in yellow while having some bars in black but only a section or the bar was black if memory serves me right? Sorry but one more question could this had been another cichlid because I don't know my fishes too well and the only fish labeled were jags and butti but you know how LFS can be.

i am dissapointed that i did not see it.. :D

Its a Xanthic Jaguar. Yellow pigments give it that complextion. Awesome price too. Should of taken it. Grown it up in a 55 for what, 8 months then sold it back at 8" for 80 or more bucks.

If you're trying to say that the shop jag looked like Bolty's fry then I'm pretty sure what you saw was a normal jag. Many look black because they're stressed but depending on their mood they can range froms solid black to barry black and gold/yellow to mostly yellow with a gold wash over them that fades the black bars to almost undetectable.
If they were xanthic you wouldn't be able to tell unless the clean orange/gold started coming through the normal yellow/gold & black barred pattern in a patchy pattern, like it does in RD/Midas.
Gold jags aren't xanthic but it's still not easy to tell a gold jag from a regular. They just have more solid gold and keep the coloration, not developing the blues/greens/purples as they mature.

straitjacketstar I did not actually refering to bolty's frys but the parent sorry for the confusion. The jag I saw was nothing like bolty's fry it had more yellow pigment. As to mood, it seemed to be the dominant fish in the tank because he was the biggest and chased most of the jags in with it. Are you saying that regular jag can develope yellow pigment? If they can I didn't know that:confused: . But you may be right seeing that I don't know my fishes.

cookiemonster I wish I could but it is still too small so don't know if shipping it will kill it and also I wouldn't know how I would ship it, but if you're serious I guess you could try to handle the shipping.
