disaster in the making?

Never in pairs, always in threes or more. Add some tinfoil barbs for dithers if you're gonna do the pair. With how close they are in size you should be fine as long as they can spread the beating around.

Not worth it in my opinion. The dominant one will pick on the other constantly, if not when they're young then certainly once they grow. Ripped fins and gashes heal over time but a tiger constantly under stress will not be the same specimen. Multiple tigers certainly can work but coloration, personality, overall health & appearance will suffer.

This is why I sold my tanzaniae and vittatus and just kept the goliath.

It's a hit and miss. You'll need a very big tank. Payarakeeper has a few large tigers in his tank. No updates for a while though.

A long time ago I did have two VATF. I now have one. I found any "silver fish" as I call them (open water swimmers) were eventually mauled over time. The only ones that seem to have dealt with it are my Brycon.

I suspect given enough space it could work. Maybe enough numbers. I'm not a fan of crowded tanks though.
