Hey all. I haven't posted on here in a couple of years but I wanted to share my latest story. I had recently gone on a short weekend trip and came home to find that 6 of my 8 piranha (of the past 7 years) were dead. I suspect that it had something to with my faulty heater. The water temp was way off and near 100 degrees. I immediatly tossed it, did a 100% water change and revived the 2 remaining piranha in my 20 gallon w/ mbunas. Very upset and with an empty 100 gallon tank i was inspired to start fresh. Today I traded the two remaining piranha to a friend for a 4" silver arowana! I've always wanted to grow one and this was the perfect opportunity. I plan on making and updating a thread in the arow section of this site. Pics will be up soon! Anyways MFK's, I'm back!

Damn, that sucks. Do you mind if I ask what brand heater it was? It is good that you are keeping positive and starting over rather than throwing in the towel. Good luck with the aro.

Bummer about the fish soup. That seems to happen pretty often.

Ranco ETC controllers are the way to go. IMO, all heaters manufactured for the hobby are cheap pieces of junk...ticking time bombs just waiting to go off (or rather, stick on). A nice industrial controller is good insurance against cheap-o aquarium heater failure.

Do you have plans to upgrade for the aro? A 100G is good for maybe 8 to 10 months.

It was a Hydor. I believe i have had it for 7 or 8 years. I had an identical one break but it had no effect on the fish nor did it overheat.

Very interesting. Havent seen one of those before. And I realize the aro will get big but i'll either upgrade or more likely trade it back in.
