Any rule of thumb as to how to take proper care of Discus and Angels together? Should I have more Discus than Angels or vice versa? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I have 2 discus (a apair) and 5 almost adult angels together along with a bunch of cory cats, some GBRs and a couple of plecos. The discus and angels really don't interact at all. I'm not sure it really matters...will be an individual fish thing I think.

What are you getting?

Back in the day, I had a 55-gallon with 7 discus and two angels. The angels were a pair and eventually two of the discus paired off too. They all got along fine with the occasional scuffle but nothing crazy. I also had some random corydoras in there and a pair of crenicara filamentosas.

in the wild they hang out together...thats why they both have the vertical lines on the body for hiding in the mazanita roots.....

what i did was get angels that were smaller than the discus. this way the angels know who runs the tank. my angels are catching up to the discus size but still dont mess with the discus..i've heard of angels being agressive towards discus in some cases. Gl

here is what ive got so far, soooo close to finally be complete with my setup
3 discus: 1 cobalt, 1 snakeskin, 1 red spotted
4 angels, two black and yellow koi, 2 platinum
2 melini cory cats
2 killifish- 1 golden wonder, 1 red stripe
6 rummy nose tetras
1 albino bushynose pleco

Sounds like a beautiful tank!! Up your number of cories to at least 4...they will be much happier! Watch your discus close...with 3, 2 of them may gang up and pick on 1. You may want to consider at least 1 more if that occurs...it will just help spread out the aggression. Can't wait to see pics!!

im working on getting 1 more discus, but i cant find any that dont look like the three i already have, catch my drift? and i found some corys with orange fins that i want :) pix will be posted soon

I had a breeding pair of angels with my group of discus. It was not good. The angels were jerks and were always going after the discus. If they were not a breeding pair it might have been ok.

I would recommend not keeping breeding pairs with discus.
