Hello. I have 8 adult, sub adult sveni in my hardscaped 300 gallon tank. I’m debating on adding discus. They would be larger grow outs. There is ample room, opportunity for food, etc.. do you think the discus would be a good for or get outcompeted? Thanks.

I wouldn’t keep the two together. The Geophagus are boisterous fish and majority of the time (I won’t say all) they don’t mix well with Symphysodon. Whether it be; out compete the discus for food, their aggression when spawning or the pure fact they are so boisterous. They will cause the discus to be very timid and shy, eventually being outcompeted.

If you want a eartheater with you disucs, I would choose either a biotodoma or Mikrogeophagus species

Thanks for the insight. I already have the sveni and red back scalare. I’m looking for a 3rd species to add some color. Maybe a school of something up top that would swim back and forth?
