Hi all, I am interested in keeping discus. By the end of the year I would like to have my 100g set with some of these beauties.

I would like to hear what people think of all pellet diet for them? Im reading alot and notice that alot of hobbyist give blood worms and BEEF heart, very high protien diets when from what I know they do not have this sort of diet in the wild??? Im a big advocate of NLS and IMO I believe there is no better food right now that you can give to your prize fish exclusively!

Does any one feed juvie as well as adult discus exclusivley NLS pellets? What is the reasoning for feeding such high protien diet with out any other sources of nutrients?

Thanks

I feed young fish NLS grow pellets .5mm adults get Regular NLS 1mm or Threa A+ 1mm. Discus are slow graizers so tank mates that feed too agressivly will out compete them for food. Keep that in mind if you plan on any tank mates.

There's not a ton of nutritional value with blood worms and beef heart. Make pellets main staple with live/frozen food as a treat.

Ok thats good to hear! I will definitly keep the tank mate scenerio in mind!

Ummm, beefheart (BH) is used by MANY Discus enthusiast due to its high protein content. I personally have fed my discus BH for amost 2yrs. Discus should be fed a variety of diet form the time they are juvies to almost adults...........

Ehh when young and small and u want to plump them up that's when u put them in bare bottom tank feed them 6-10 times a day a variety of food and change water 2 times a day when they get older u can feed them strictly pellets I like using NLS discus sinking pellet and new era discus disc it's a new food where u put on ring and the discus can snack on it all day like seaweed in a saltwater tank

Dude, you're resurrecting long dead threads all over the section and very few of these people are likely to notice. The OP and all the people who have commented in these threads don't get any notification that the thread is active again because notifications stop once the thread has been inactive for more than 30 days. Just food for thought.
