discus and severums

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine couldn't, the Sev was too aggressive. But my Geophagus are fine with the Discus. It all depends on the temperament, the size of the fish when introduced, the size of the tank, etc.

Very unlikely. Maybe some hardy adult discus with some juvi sevs.

Severums sometimes are boisterous and can outcompete the discus for food. No, they shouldn't be combined.

Hi there. While it's easy to say try it and see, I don't suggest it.
Even if you have a mellow sev.. compared to discus they are much more aggressive when it comes to competing with other species at feeding time. Altho their requirements as to temps etc are similar.. their personalities on the whole do not make them compatible in a 75. In a very very big tank maybe depending on their individual personalities. Remember they are both gonna be big fish and a 75 is a small tank for big fish. I see you have 2 sevs. As they grow, depending on their temperment the tank may not be big enough for the 2 of them LOL. I've had discus and now I have sevs.. my juvie sev rotk even chases my adult angel and lip locked with an adult sev that was in the 120 gallon tank for awhile.. Even if they don't attack the discus they would probably stress them too much. Discus really are happiest when they are the kings of the tank unless it's a very big one. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. Sue

no, it will not work, severums are way too aggressive for discus

Having kept and bred both, I totally agree. It would be a expensive, foolish mistake in the long term.
