A couple of days ago I introduced a small Motoro Stingray into my 77 gallon discus tank. The stingray is about 4 to 5 inches round and the 7 discus are about 4 inches each. I fully realise that I will need to move the stingray into a larger tank at a future point in time.
I had seen and heard of discus and stingrays together but it seems to be putting a high degree of stress on the discus. The discus huddle together to sleep at night (I wonder how much rest they are really getting) and they are very dark during the day. They don't seem outwardly scared of the ray as they will hover in close proximaty but the stress signs tell me that they don't like their new tankmate.
The ray is, on the other hand, very active, happy, and eating well.
I hate seeing the fish stressed like this and I am seriously thinking of taking the stingray back to the store as I am not currently in the financial position to set up a new large tank dedicated to the ray.
Was this whole move a bad idea to begin with or is this stress simply a short term thing? Anyone have experience in this area?
Thank you.

Probably a bad move to begin with because the ray will outgrow that tank, and if you arent in the position to upgrade soon, you would have been stuck with a big ray.

Is the tank covered in sand? If so the discus shouldn't be too weary. I have a teacup stinger with my 10 discus so I wouldn't see why the discus couldn't adapt with time.

can you see the egs ? so they are feeling good with the rays

guyana stingrays are normally the humerosa

I agree, It was a bad move from the get-go because that ray of yours will eventuall require a bigger tank of about 180 gallons, maybe more.
