So currently I have a 150 gallon with a
Marineland canister filter c-360
A HOB emperor 400
And a sump that's meant for a 400 gallon tank according to the sticker it had on it and a pump that shoots up 2400 gallons an hour

Currently I have some fish in it
A pacu that's about 7 or 8 inches I've had him for a year but he doesn't grow so yay
A Senegal birchir that's about a foot long
A blue tilapia (one of my favorites, very personable )
8 filament barbs
A 8 inch bala shark
A little male convict I've had for three years and a jade goby that's about a foot and a half long
And a little African knife fish

But I really want to get into discus breeding so I'm willing to get rid of everyone except the birchir I'll just have a divider in the tank so he won't eat the fry

So I plan on getting rid of all the sand I have and I'll probably take oit all my driftwood, it'll be a bare tank so it should be easier to maintain butt my one problem is that I can't do water changes every day

I've seen some people say they do water changes every day, a few times a day to grow their discus, are they over exxagerating ?

How often would I require to do water changes to promote healthy growth? And how much water?

Normally I'll do it once every 2 weeks (50%)and my water always is fine besides a nitrate level of 5 which isn't really that bad but im not sure how sensitive discus are.

Would I be better off getting adults also how much discus should I get to promote healthy growth?

I'd be looking into a fully grown mature pair mate then you won't have to worry about rippin the substrate and bog wood out and stunting young fish. But if your heart Is set on growing out a group then def go the bare tank. Also you may need to get a smaller pump for your sump as discus like slow flowing water. If I was growing younger fish I'd be doing 2-3 70-80% water changes per week. If I had an adult pair I'd just be doing 80% weekly in a tank that size. Hope that helps mate they really do need the extra care but IMO are well worth it.

I do daily 50% water changes and feed 3x a day for my group.

The fact that your pacu hasn't grown is concerning.

You're better off changing your location back to Florida and getting a ray than to think that you will be able to spawn discus.

The pacu growth has nothing to do with me, my high school I attended had a little fish club and the poor pacu was in a 55 gallon with 2 Oscars 2 jade goby and 2 convicts he's been there for about 8 months or so
