Hi
I have 2 x 18'' cube tanks as il be getting 2 pairs of discus breeders and I was wondering what size HOB filters would I need for them ?
Thanks

If you are dead set on HOB, you will need to install sponges on the intakes else the fry will end up in the impeller. you should look into a sponge filter, which are much better for fry tanks. That being said I would shoot for 9-12 turn over per hour but in order to do that you will need to poke WAY more holes on the input to spread the pull out along with the prefilter sponge. Anything 300 gpm and over should be ok for you. AquaClear70.

Thanks for the reply
And it doesn't have to be HOB filters I was just told to get them but if you know betters ones please let me know.

use a sponge filter with an air pump. The area for water to come into the filter is much larger and so you can get the same turn over without getting, pull that will suck up your fry. The more air you can put through the better. My plan for my rack, 4 20's and 2 55's is to run a 1100gpm air pump ecoplus commercial with 6 pro Hikari XL sponge filters. the 20's will serve for breeding and the 55's for growing out. you may want to put a stone in the sponge filter the finer the bubbles the more water it will pull through.

Ok could you send me a link of what I'd need in the 2 breeding tanks and what I'd need in the grow out tanks ? I'm running a 120 lpm air pump at the min.
